Nursing Recognized
The School of Nursing has been cited as one of the top four programs in the
country for geriatric nursing scholarship, according to rankings from the Journal
of Gerontological Nursing released last summer.
In a comparison of programs based on the amount of funding received from the
National Institute of Nursing Research -the major National Institutes of Health
organization that funds nursing research -as well as on a survey of nursing
schools completed in the summer of 1999, the School of Nursing rose to the top
because of its focused work in geriatric nursing.
About 25 percent or more of its grants are directed to geriatric nursing.
Rochester also is home to a geriatric education center, the John A. Hartford
Center of Excellence in Geriatric Medicine, as well as centers focused on aging,
and geriatric consortiums-all of which the study cited.
