Level Up Your Research Integrity: Real World Dilemmas for Early Career Researchers

Starting out in research comes with plenty of questions, surprises, and “wait… what do I do now?” moments. The good news: you don’t have to have it all figured out.
In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore the personal qualities that help you thrive as a responsible researcher and work through real ethical dilemmas drawn from the Dilemma Game. Together, we’ll examine practical decision-making strategies and discuss how to navigate common gray areas in research practice, including the responsible use of AI in scholarly publishing.

Learning Outcomes:  By attending this session, you’ll be able to:

  1. Recognize the personal strengths and habits that help you build honest, trustworthy research from the start.
  2. Make thoughtful, confident decisions when facing ethical dilemmas in your research.
  3. Develop awareness of how to use AI responsibly in scholarly publishing.

Sponsored Research Essentials: A Guide to Resources, Compliance, and Funding

This session, led by Vice President for Research Steve Dewhurst and leaders from collaborating offices, will provide an overview of the research landscape and the resources available to faculty conducting research. Topics covered in the overview will include sponsored research administration, research involving human subjects or animals, research integrity, sponsored research accounting, technology commercialization, patents and IP, research security, and more.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify key institutional offices and resources that support faculty and their research.
  2. Understand core compliance requirements related to sponsored research administration, research integrity, human/animal research, and research security.
  3. Navigate opportunities for funding, accounting, commercialization, and intellectual property management.

Learn from experts on how to build a classroom that’s safe, respectful, and supportive for everyone.

Assessment Essentials: Leveraging BlackBoard and HelioCampus for Effective Evaluation

In this workshop, we’ll delve into the process of aligning and measuring student learning outcomes across different levels: courses, programs, and accreditation standards. The presenter s will discuss how the use of technology can supplement existing practices to streamline data collection and documentation within the assessment cycle. The presentation will also show examples of how tools like BlackBoard and HelioCampus can be harnessed to track student performance longitudinally, aid in program reviews, and meet accreditation benchmarks.
