Chinese Government Scholarship Timeline

Please be advised that before we nominate you or endorse your candidacy for a fellowship competition, we will perform a conduct and academic honesty check to confirm that you are in good disciplinary and academic standing.

All deadlines are at 11:59 pm unless otherwise noted.

Currently enrolled UR students who are not citizens of China may seek nomination for the one-year Chinese Government Scholarship for non-degree studies in Chinese language and culture or other disciplinary studies at selected Chinese universities. Applicants must possess appropriate level of language proficiency for disciplinary studies taught in Chinese. Some institutions offer studies in English. The scholarship covers tuition and living expenses. Up to four students may be nominated. Applicants choose from a directory of participating institutions across China and can select up to three academic programs and three institutions.

NOMINATION STEPS:

Step 1: no later than January 10, 2020: Declare interest by completing campus Prospective Applicant Form and submitting CGS Interest Form (including statement of 300 words or less discussing your academic and career-related interest in China, what and where you wish study.) Follow up by calling or emailing the Fellowships Office to schedule a meeting with the director to discuss your candidacy. 

Step 2: no later than January 17, 2020: Have discussion (in person or via telephone/Skype) with Fellowships Director about candidacy and remaining application requirements.

Step 3: January 21, 2020: applicants notified of nomination status and given further instructions for completion of nomination packet.

Step 4: no later than January 30, 2020: Complete official CGS application and submit copy to Fellowships Office. Have two letters of recommendation, written on official/departmental letterhead and signed by author,sent by email from the letter writer to the Fellowships Office.  Application requires copy of passport home page and official transcript(s).

Step: 5: February 1, 2020: Nominations submitted to the Chinese Consulate in NYC.
