At Rochester:
- Football and track letterman who debuted with 1944 gridiron team, the first coached by Elmer Burnham (Rochester's all-time victory leader)
- Arrived on campus as a member of the Navy V-12 program after serving on active duty at several locations, including the Atlantic Coast anti-submarine patrol in SBD Divebombers
- Attended Hobart College for one semester before coming to Rochester
- Captain of the football team as a senior
Post-Graduate:
- A 1950 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine & Dentistry
