Entered the University of Rochester in the fall of 1971 after
playing soccer at Pittsford High School where he was All-State and
Region 2 All-America
Made conversion from forward to midfield and in his junior year
helped lead the team to what was then its top state and regional
rankings in its history
In his four seasons he started 65 consecutive matches
Earned a B.A. in English Education
Post-Graduate:
Taught and coached at Victor High School for 4 years
District Manager for Athlete's Foot Stores for 5 years
For 13 years was a financial advisor with American Express
Financial Services
Currently is the owner of John D. Butterworth Associates
financial services firm
Since 1976, has been the soccer coach at Penfield High
School-His teams have won 10 sectional titles, 3 NYS championships
and 15 Monroe County Sportsmanship Awards
Has been selected New York State Coach of the Year twice and
was a finalist for National Coach of the Year in both 2000 and
2004
