David Cidale
'71
At Rochester:
- Played offense, defense and special teams for the Yellowjackets
- Led the freshman team in rushing yards as a running back
- His sophomore year he was the starting wingback and punt and kickoff returner
- Junior year he played both ways, starting at halfback and cornerback
- Captained the team his senior year, performing defense and special team duties
- Also a member of the track and field team, where he threw javelin for two years
- Placed first in the javelin throw twice at the University of Buffalo Invitational Track and Field Meet
- Holds the Rochester record for throwing the “old style” javelin
Post-Graduate:
- Joined the US Air Force as a pilot, flying the F-4 Phantom out of Bitburg, Germany
- Continued his football career as a running back for the base team which went undefeated (11-0-0) and won the US Air Force Football Championship of Europe
- Rushed for 1100 yards, scored 11 touchdowns and was selected the League’s Most Valuable Player of the Year
- Played Rugby for the National Rugby Club of Luxembourg
- After active military duty, with a background in aviation, Cidale flew the F-16 Falcon with the New York Air National Guard
- Owned an aerial fish spotting business, flew commercially for Eastern Airlines, and completed his career flying internationally for Federal Express
- Currently flies his own aircraft in a voluntary capacity for the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary over the Great Lakes
- Resides in Grand Island, NY with the former U of R cheerleader and tennis player, Lynne Hall Blanchard
