John M. Donohue
'51
At Rochester:
- Three-year starter with the men's basketball team from 1947-48 to 1950-51
- Also started for the University's golf team as a senior
- In 1948-49, he averaged 20.5 points per game and was listed among the Top 10 scorers in the nation for small colleges by the National Collegiate Athletic Bureau (forerunner of the NCAA Statistics Service)
- Set a single-game scoring record of 37 points in 1948-49 season which stood for 25 years
Post-Graduate:
- Original member of the Alumni Group of 10 that established the Lysle "Spike" Garnish Scholarship Fund for deserving student athletes
- Co-founder, former owner, and president of Merkel Donohue business interiors firm
- Former member, Board of Directors, First National Bank of Rochester
- Member of University of Rochester Associates
- Inducted into the Rochester-Monroe County Athletes Hall of Fame in 1985
- Passed away in May, 2008
