At Rochester:

  • Three-year letterman in football and swimming, captain of both teams in 1938-39
  • Set pool records at Union and RPI in the breaststroke
  • Member of Delta Upsilon, Theta Pi Sigma, Mendicants, Keidaeans
  • Awarded the Terry Prize in 1939 for overall contributions to the life of the College
  • Elected Phi Beta Kappa

Post-Graduate:

  • M.A. and Ph.D. in English from Syracuse in 1950 and an M.L.S. from Rutgers in 1964
  • Drafted and served in U.S. Army Coast Artillery and later Infantry from 1941-46
  • Instructor in English at Syracuse, then taught at Drew University in Madison, NJ
  • Director of the Drew University Library, 1956-86
  • Trustee of Madison Public Library, several years as President of that board
  • Member, American Theological Library Association, President in 1967-68
  • Served on accrediting teams of Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools
  • Awarded New Jersey Library Association's Distinguished Service Award in 1980
