Daniel Leary
'83
At Rochester:
- Four year letter-winner in basketball
- Played in 12 games his freshman year
- Became a starter early in his sophomore year and helped the team finish with 15 wins
- Presented with Rufus Hedges Award for greatest contribution to basketball both sophomore and senior year
- Dual accomplishments in his junior season: on the court, he helped the Yellowjackets to 20 victories and away from the court, he was named to the Dean's List
- Rochester won the Lincoln First Holiday Tournament (he was MVP) and was selected for the NCAA Division III playoffs
- Elected to Who's Who of American College Students as a junior...Named to the ECAC Upstate Division III First Team and Fifth Team All-East by Eastern Basketball as a junior
- Topped the 1,000-career point mark as a senior
- Graduated with a B.A. in economics
Post-Graduate:
- Played for the Claremont Admirals in the second division of the Irish National Premier League
- Played one year and helped the team win the playoff to get into the National League for the following year
- Following year started a career on Wall Street
- Worked commodities industry for the next 10 years as a clerk and then moved up to supervisor of the Gold Department for Sabin Commodities on the floor of the New York Commodities Exchange
- In 1994, entered the New York State Court Officers Academy in October
- Became a court officer in Kings County Supreme Court
- Is Fiduciary Clerk for Brooklyn Supreme Court
- Started an organization called the Graybeards that perform community service in response to the 9/11 tragedy and another tragedy that hit close to home the crash of the American Airlines flight in Rockaway Beach. The Graybeards provide financial assistance to the needy along with counseling.
