At Rochester:
- Two-way player for football, co-captain as a senior
- Received and English prize in his freshman year
- Received the Terry Prize and as a senior, received the Dewey oratorical prize
- Elected president of the senior class
Post-Graduate:
- Attended the University's Medical School
- Assisted in coaching the freshman football team
- Made an Ensign in the V-12 Program during his third year in medical school
- Joined the U.S. Navy as a physician on the attack transport USS Goodhue in October, 1944
- In August, 1945, sailed into Yokohama Harbor and picked up the prisoners of war from the Bataan Death March survivors, the British from Singapore, and downed U.S. pilots from all over the Pacific
- Flew to Pearl Harbor attack where he was made a physician for the USS Coasters Harbor
- Also served in the Korean War
- Consistent Rochester District Golfers Association Seniors Champion
