At Rochester:
- Played football for two seasons-freshman and sophomore years-before gaining early admission into the University's School of Medicine
- He was part of the second class to be admitted to what was then a pilot program
- B.A. in biology and anthropology, Magna Cum Laude, 1979
- Named to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa
Post-Graduate:
- M.D. with honors from the University of Rochester in 1983
- Presently a tenured professor of orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation and the director of athletic medicine at Penn State University
- Was a clinical instructor of surgery at Penn State's Milton Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA from 1988-1989
- Assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, 1989-1992
- Associate surgeon, Strong Memorial Hospital, 1989-1992
- Attending orthopedic surgeon, Monroe Community Hospital, 1990-1992
- Joined Penn State as Director of Athletic Medicine in December, 1992
- Has received research funding and grants for more than a dozen projects
- Authored more than 30 peer-reviewed articles, over 35 non-peer-reviewed articles, and 13 books and book chapters
