'90
At Rochester:
- Four-year letterwinner for the cross country team
- Three-year letterwinner plus a two-time captain for the track team
- An NCAA Cross Country All-American in 1988
- Led the Yellowjackets to top 10 finishes in the 1987, 1988, and 1989 NCAA Cross Country Championships as well as to the win of the inaugural UAA Cross Country Championship in 1987
- Selected to the All-UAA First Team in 1987 and 1988 and won UAA Cross Country Athlete of the Year in 1988
- Finished 10th at both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the 5,000 meter
- A UAA Outdoor 10,000 meter champion in 1989 and won the Rochester Track and Field Outstanding Performer Award in 1988
Post-Graduate:
- Earned his MS in exercise and sports science at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and his phD in exercise and movement science at the University of Oregon
- Internationally recognized expert on youth development through sport and physical activity
- Professor and chair of the Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University
- Presently resides in Okemos, Michigan, with his wife, Sarah, his son, Austin, and his daughter, Emma
