Joan Alley Smith
'84
At Rochester:
- Three-sport athlete-soccer, swimming, and track and field
- First female track All-American in 1983
- Earned two All-America honors in swimming and was voted the Most Outstanding Swimmer in New York State in 1982
- Held nine swimming records and two track records (one of which still stands)
- Graduated from the University in 1984 with a degree in Nursing
Post-Graduate:
- Joined Athletes in Action and traveled with them to Eastern Europe to compete in 1985
- In 1987, she moved to California to pursue a full-time career as a professional tri-athlete (attaining a U.S. top 10 ranking)
