At Rochester:

  • Participated in three seasons of football and baseball
  • Quarterback on offense (captain in his senior year) and one of the top tacklers on defense
  • Catcher for the baseball team which compiled the best three-year record ever on the River Campus
  • Honorable Mention Little All-America by Associated Press for football
  • Recipient of the Gordon Wallace Trophy in 1940

Post-Graduate:

  • Two years with General Motors Corporation
  • Was an assistant freshman football coach at Rochester
  • Graduate courses in aeronautical engineering (September, 1943-January, 1944) at Cal Tech
  • Received a master's degree in engineering from Yale in 1950
  • One of five Naval officers who planned and directed development of aircraft gas turbine (jet) engine for use by Navy's carrier-based flight aircraft (in World War II)
  • Retired in 1984 after 23 years with United Technologies Corporation in the Washington, D.C. area
