Anthropology of Africa
The Department of Anthropology at the University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the anthropology of Africa. This position is one of several anticipated as part of a multi-departmental interdisciplinary initiative in the study of Africa and the African Diaspora.
All topical specializations will be considered; ethnographic research that considers Africa in both a regional and global context is strongly encouraged. The department would be particularly interested in candidates who share an interest with current anthropology faculty in circular migration, economic development and globalization, transnational religious movements, health and healing, the relationship of non-governmental organizations to state institutions, and the comparative study of media and popular culture.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a Ph.D., demonstrated excellence in research, and experience in teaching are mandatory. Candidates must be able to teach undergraduate courses in social and cultural anthropology at all levels in addition to courses in their own areas of specialization. Successful candidates will also contribute to the multi-disciplinary research activities of the University of Rochester's Frederick Douglass Institute in African and African American Studies.
