Plenty to do at Eastman this year

merrillHello, Eastman!

My name is Kimberly Merrill, and I am the Eastman Students’ Association president this year. I hope you are all reaping the benefits of a wonderful summer, whether it be by studying at a prestigious program, working a 40-hour week, watching endless Netflix, or reading many, many books.

A huge welcome goes out to our newcomers, the Class of 2017—we cannot wait for you to arrive and experience the unique creative energy that is Eastman! From the practice rooms to the stage of Kodak Hall, you will find this community brimming with support, enrichment, and experiences that will
push, pressure, and challenge you toward your fullest potential. I think most current students would agree with me: it’s pretty fun.

In other news, make sure to check out our second annual Welcome Weekend (Sept. 5-8), which will
include convocation, a movie shown on the big screen in Hatch Hall, and a courtyard carnival. The Eastman SA will be handing out free things during the carnival, so take a break from practicing and stop by! The rest of the exec board and I will do our best to convince you to come to the first SA meeting of the semester: every meeting is open to all undergrads and provides a great opportunity to contribute to the student community here.

If that doesn’t sound too interesting (although, let’s be real, you know it does), there are plenty of other student groups to tempt the antisocial. Chief among them are our Soccer Club, Eastmanites Anonymous (a group that sponsors weekly movie nights with free food), the music fraternity Mu Phi
and music sorority SAI—and let’s not forget the brand new Eastman for Earth, an organization intent on making our musical world a little greener.

Finally, when you get a chance, look over the 2013 edition of Clef Notes. It will
fill you in on all things Eastman, and is sure to help answer many questions before
the semester gets started.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
