Expanded offerings in books and merchandise and the addition of community activities are just a few of the changes students can expect when the new University bookstore opens in College Town this fall.

The Barnes and Noble bookstore, which will anchor the new development at the corner of Mt. Hope and Elmwood avenues, will hold its ribbon cutting during Meliora Weekend in October. At 20,000 square feet, the bookstore will house textbooks for University students in addition to the Yellowjacket Spirit Shop, cards and gifts, and a convenience store.

“This new store will be a great space where the University and the community can come together. Expanded merchandise and a full event calendar will make it quite different from our campus stores,” says Cam Schauf, director of Campus Dining Services and Auxiliary Operations.

The store will also serve as a community bookstore and will host special events, author visits, and other community activities, Schauf says.

Saxby’s Coffee will be open adjacent to the bookstore, offering coffee, smoothies, sandwiches, salads, and more for bookstore patrons.

How do I get my textbooks?

River Campus students will pick up their textbooks at the bookstore’s current location in the Frederick Douglass building for the fall semester.

Once the College Town location opens, the bookstores on the River Campus and at the Medical Center will close. The Eastman School bookstore operations remain unchanged.

A University shuttle stop will be added at College Town and free textbook delivery will also be available starting in the spring semester. Look for updates on returning textbooks for fall courses later this semester.
