Lester Lefton (PhD) was named senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at Tulane University. . . . Duncan Moore '74 (PhD), Rudolf and Hilda Kingslake Professor of Optical Engineering, has received the Optical Society of America's Leadership Award/New Focus Prize for his technical, educational, and service contributions to the optics community and for his public-policy work as a national science advisor. Moore, a former dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, served as Congressional Science Fellow in 1993-94 and was president and fellow of the Optical Society of America and fellow of the International Society of Optical Engineering. He most recently served as associate director for technology of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Clinton administration.

He holds five patents, including one of the first software patents issued in the United States, obtained when he worked at Eastman Kodak. . . .
