Who We Are

The Faculty Senate is a University-wide representative body composed of elected faculty members from all schools and colleges at the University of Rochester. It serves as a forum to discuss, decide, and advise on matters affecting the faculty and the institution.

Our Mission

To promote the academic welfare and development of the University through shared governance and communication.

Faculty Senate Responsibilities

Policy

Review and recommend policies related to matters affecting the academic environment and faculty.

Advocacy

Address issues impacting faculty and the University.

Communication

Serve as a communication channel between the faculty, president, and provost, and board. Collaborate with student and staff governance and leadership.

Service

Elect committees and conduct faculty governance elections. Design task forces and committees for faculty to recommend responses to issues arising.

Confidentiality

Maintain confidentiality of Senate proceedings within the University.

Representation

Facilitate faculty representation in University governance.
