International Student Academic Affairs (ISAA)

Our mission is to support and retain international undergraduate students in the School of Arts & Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences. We do this by providing holistic, student-centered support to students as well as their parents/guardians, from pre-arrival through post-graduation.

We recognize and celebrate each student’s unique strengths and their potential for growth and development throughout their journey at the University. Our goal is to ensure every student feels valued, heard, and genuinely connected, fostering a true sense of belonging.

What does ISAA do?

Alongside the typical challenges faced by college students, international students may encounter unique hurdles, such as culture shock, language differences, immigration regulations, geo-political concerns, and navigating the US education system and resources. Our team is uniquely trained and experienced to work with students, partner offices and families and promote international student success.

Our team also assists students who are not F-1/J-1 University sponsored student visa holders. This includes individuals on various visa categories, dependents of visa holders, Third Culture Kids, Americans living abroad, DACA recipients, and other non-citizens.

Some of the ways we contribute to international students’ success is to:

  • Facilitate a smooth transition into US higher education
  • Inform and guide students on the wide range of opportunities available within the school and University
  • Clarify requirements and expectations to support student understanding
  • Connect students to resources to promote physical, spiritual, and mental well-being
  • Collaborate with the Greene Career Center to prepare students for life after graduation
  • Partner with ISO to ensure immigration compliance
  • Work within Academic Services to ensure timely graduation

Helping International Students Adjust

In addition to support services that are offered to all students, international students also have access to:

  • In country pre-departure workshops
  • Intercultural advising
  • Cultural Intelligence Trainings

International students also have the option of taking CASC 170: International Student Success and/or CASC 175: Global Citizen Seminar to help transition to life on an American campus. Both are two credit courses offered by the advising office.

CASC 170: International Student Success

This course gives students to opportunity to explore campus and American culture, and build academic skills to improve your success in the American classroom.

CASC 175: Global Citizen Seminar

Students explore what it means to be a global citizen through critical self-reflection and exploration of intercultural experiences globally and locally.
