Medallion Program

Leadership Continues Through Your Interactions with Others!

Level 2 of the Medallion Program focuses on Interpersonal Competence. To successfully complete this portion of the program you will need to complete the following: 

  • Must attend a Level 2 Opening Session
    • Opening Session (required to complete level 2) 
      • Level 2 Opening Session: John DiSarro
        • Tuesday 8/29/2017 "Practices in Leadership" Fall Leadership Training (Multiple Presenters)
        • Wednesday 9/6/2017 at 7:00pm in Douglass Commons-Room 401 (John DiSarro)
      • Level 2 opening session workshops can be requested
        • Groups must have at least 8 people sign up and attend in order to request an opening session workshop
        • Contact to request an opening session workshop
  • Must be an active member of a recognized student organization
    • OR hold a campus job, be an athlete through athletics or have a leadership role within ResLife.
      • Active is defined as one full semester completed in role, active participation in group decisions, and be in good standing.
  • Must complete 5 Interpersonal Competence workshops**
    • Workshops are on a first come first serve basis and can fill up fast (Signing up prior to the workshop date is highly encouraged! Register for workshops here).

  • Must complete a short reflection for each workshop (Submitted via CCC)
  • Must complete an article review paper (Submitted via CCC)
    • Level 2 participants are required to submit a 2-3 paged paper that utilizes 2 peer-reviewed articles and includes the following: (1) a brief summary of the issues described in the articles, (2) connection to the themes and content discussed during the Medallion Program and relevant workshops, (3) what are the current challenges surrounding addressing these issues, and (4) what recommendations would be appropriate for practice in addressing these issues at the University of Rochester?
  • Must complete a student organization reflection paper (Submitted via CCC)
    • Level 2 participants are required to complete a 1 paged paper reflecting on their experiences as a student group member or student employee and include the answers to the questions below in their reflection.
      • 1. Explain what skill(s) you have gained or further developed that has positively impacted your ability to be a better student group member or student employee?
      • 2. How has this skill(s) been helpful in other aspects of your campus life experiences?
      • 3. How have you empowered your fellow student group members or co-workers to be upstanding student or student employees? 
      • 4. Give an example of an interpersonal skill you have positively executed to impact others.
  • Must complete level 2 assessment (Submitted via CCC)

**Workshops maybe substituted for an approved program outside of workshops offered by the Medallion Program as marked by a Medallion logo. A list of approved workshops/events/programs can also be found under the Interpersonal Competence workshop list. Contact the offices listed for more details regarding the workshop/program/event. 

  • Workshops/events/programs that are listed under multiple domains can only fulfill ONE of the domains it is listed under (you have the choice which one of the domains you want it to fulfill).

Co-Sponsoring Workshops: If you are interested in co-sponsoring a Medallion Program workshop please fill out this form. Co-sponsoring a Medallion Workshop means you agree to send 5 or more members to the workshop and you agree to help advertise for the workshop. Co-sponsoring workshops are on a first-come-first-serve basis. Filling out the form does not guarantee co-sponsorship. You will receive an email informing you of your co-sponsorship status after you submit the form. 

The Domain-Interpersonal

There are a total of 6 domains in the program: Knowledge Acquisition, Cognitive Complexity, Intrapersonal Competence, Interpersonal Competence, Practical Competence, and Civic Engagement. 

Level 2's domain is Interpersonal Competence. If you want to complete Level 2 you must complete the tasks outlined in Level 2's description above which includes participating in a Level Two Opening Session in addition to participating in 5 workshops from the list below. Again, you can choose to complete all levels, some levels, or even just a few workshops. At any point you can move in and out of levels or choose to only take a few workshops. Those that complete all levels will be welcomed into the Medallion Leadership Society! 

Level 2 Incentives

Upon completion of the requirements for Level 2 you will:

  • Receive a level 2 pin
  • Be invited to attend the Medallion Program Reception
  • Have a deeper, more complex understanding of leadership and collaboration with others.
  • Have increased your skills in conflict resolution and group dynamics.
