Cara Brand
Cara Brand is a PhD candidate in ecology and evolutionary biology. She chose Rochester for graduate studies because the biology department is a leader in evolutionary genetics. “The department is small, but has many well-known faculty members. As a result, you have multiple mentors to help guide you through your dissertation work.”
Adora M. DSouza
For Adora DSouza, the master of science in electrical engineering program offered a range of research opportunities, especially for working on biomedical image processing. “I’ve been fortunate to work with two great professors in this field,” she says. Originally from the United Arab Emirates, she plans to make the most of her time in Rochester.

Leva McIntire
An outstanding program coupled with extensive resources brought Leva McIntire, a PhD student in optics, to Rochester. She’s conducting research at the Laboratory for Laser Enegetics, and has found lots of support from the faculty and staff at The Institute of Optics. She also enjoys the cultural and intellectual diversity on campus and in the city.
Andrii Osipa
After completing his BA in Mathematics, Andrii was looking for a program with advanced courses in artificial intelligence. He was especially interested in machine learning, and the University of Rochester had much to offer in that arena.
