Campus Information Center

The Campus Information Center, located on the second floor of Wilson Commons, offers a wide variety of services on the River Campus. In addition to general information, they can also help with signing out equipment, making same-day room reservations, and more.

Campus services

Banking

JPMorgan Chase Bank provides full-service banking for the University community, with a branch located on the ground floor of Strong Memorial Hospital. Additionally, ATMs are located throughout River Campus, the Eastman School of Music, and the Medical Center.

Campus Center

The Campus Center (Douglass Commons and Wilson Commons) is the home of student life on the River Campus. From air-conditioned spaces to item rentals and more, these buildings are open for all Summer Session students to enjoy, relax, and make the most of their Rochester experience.

Day lockers

Located in Douglass Commons (third floor), Spurrier Hall (first floor), and Wilson Commons (first floor), lockers are available on a first-come, first-served basis to store items for short periods of time. Lockers must be emptied by the end of the Summer Session; any items left will be disposed of.

ID cards

Once you have successfully registered for courses, you can obtain a student identification (ID) card. Your ID card provides access to areas secured by access card readers and links to your online accounts at a variety of different campus locations including libraries, dining centers, and more.

The International Services Office (ISO) helps more than 4,000 international students, scholars, and employees thrive at Rochester. As a Summer Session student, you'll have access to their services, expertise, and support with everything from documentation to travel guidance to cultural adjustments.

The Campus Information Center (CIC) has a variety of equipment available for the University community to sign out, including sidewalk chalk, power banks, hammocks, and more.

Mail services

Located in Todd Union on the River Campus, the Campus Mail Center manages student mailboxes, processes all on-campus student mail, and provides most typical mailing and shipping services.

Meditation & Prayer Room

Located on the third floor of Douglass Commons, the Meditation & Prayer Room includes two ablution rooms next to the space, as well as shoe covers, meditation cushions, and mats available for use.

River Campus Libraries

The River Campus Libraries offer a world-class research collection, including books, journals, and databases, as well as a wide array of digital media, and a host of services designed to support the needs of students, faculty, and researchers.

Health and wellbeing resources

Athletic facilities

Current University of Rochester students can continue to take advantage of the River Campus' athletic facilities throughout the Summer Session.

Visiting students can purchase an R Club membership, which includes full access to our athletic facilities, including group fitness classes, courts, and fitness center.

Gym equipment

A variety of gym and sports equipment is available for you to borrow from the Spurrier Manager Desk, located on the second floor of Spurrier Hall.

Available equipment includes badminton rackets, basketballs, dodgeballs, kickballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, yoga mats, and more.

Health services

If you are a visiting or exchange student that will be studying at the University for eight weeks or more, you'll participate in the Student Health Program, which includes the mandatory health fee and health insurance. You will receive the same services as full-time Rochester students.

Interfaith Chapel

The Interfaith Chapel brings the University community to celebrate their faiths and beliefs. The chapel is busy with study groups, prayer sessions, and services for a variety of communities. A schedule of upcoming services and events is available on the Interfaith Chapel website.

Mental health support

The University Counseling Center (UCC) is available to all full-time Rochester students, as well as visiting Summer Session students who are participants in the Student Health Program (must be studying at the University for eight weeks or more to participate).

Services include comprehensive initial assessments, individualized treatment plans, and support to put that plan in action, as well as an on-call UCC mental professional available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Open gym

The Spurrier Gym is an 8,600 square-foot, hardwood-floor gymnasium with a regulation size basketball court, volleyball court, badminton court, and wrestling mats. Open gym sessions will be held throughout the Summer Session, and gym equipment can be rented from the Manager Desk on the second floor.

Campus safety

Public Safety officers patrol University properties 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They maintain 500+ public access telephones (also called Blue Light phones), located throughout campus. You can call Public Safety for assistance any time of the day or night from any of these phones.


In an emergency

In the case of an emergency, use one of the following methods to contact Public Safety:

  • Dial x13 from any University phone
  • Pick up a Blue Light Emergency Phone
  • Dial #413 from AT&T or Verizon cell phones

An officer will be sent to your location right away. Local police, fire, or ambulance agencies will be notified as needed.

Non-emergency requests

Public Safety offers a number of services, such as safety escorts, vehicle assistance, and more. Call (585) 275-3333 to request one of these services. A dispatcher is on hand 24 hours a day to answer calls.
