Biking to and from work and/or school is affordable and a healthy way to get around. What’s more, it’s not just for leisure anymore – a growing number of employees and students are choosing to commute by pedaling past the pump, and improving their health while saving on transportation.
Wheels on Wednesday
Free Online Bike Classes
Boost your biking skills with “Wheels on Wednesday”, free, 15-minute monthly online sessions that cover a wide variety of cycling topics.
Bike Racks
Whether biking for recreation or commuting to work or class, Transportation and Parking Management can assist you with your bike parking needs. with With an estimated 500+ bike rack spaces, there is plenty of free bicycle parking on the University and Medical Center campuses.
Bicycles may not be parked next to signposts, trees, light poles, or handrails. Riders that would like to take their bicycles into the building with them are welcome to do so as long as the bicycle is not ridden in the hallways and is stored in a dorm room or private office. Bicycles may not be stored in hallways, break rooms and/or public places.
Bike Station Parking Permits
Wondering where you can safely store your bike while at work? There are two fully enclosed, secure bike stations located on the ground level of the hospital’s ramp garage, with one station at Jackson Drive and the other on East Drive.
Bike commuters can park their bikes in either bike station at no charge, although a permit is required. Bike stations offer:
- 24/7 access
- space saver bike racks
- security cameras
- weather-protection
- self-service bike repair stations
Permits for the bike stations can be purchased through the Parking office at 70 Goler House during regular business hours or at the Parking office inside the main Hospital Garage after business hours.

Secure Bike Parking at O’Brien Hall
Students: O’Brien Hall has an indoor bike parking room on the first floor that is available to any resident student during the academic year. To reserve a space, stop by O’Brien Hall’s Area office for a space number and card access.

Sharing your ride with a Bike Buddy makes your commute even better with added safety, visibility to drivers, and fun.
The University partners with 511NY Rideshare to help students and staff find biking and carpool partners, plan their commute, and discover transit options.
