Dr. Deborah Rubens appointed Vice-Chair of Faculty and Professional Development for Imaging Sciences

Congratulations to Dr. Deborah Rubens who has been apppointed Vice-Chair of Faculty and Professional Development for Imaging Sciences at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
In this role, Dr. Rubens will build on her work from the Academic Affairs Committee, which she founded to provide support to faculty in the promotions and reappointment process. This committee also provides feedback to junior and mid-level faculty. Dr. Rubens will continue these efforts as well as expanding Development offerings.
New aspects of this VC role:
- Lunchtime conferences on topics of interest to faculty in pursuing scholarship in Education, Administration, and Research. Sample topics may include: Educational Exhibits that Win, Using a (free) Audience Response System, How to do a Retrospective Study, Managing the IRB, National Networking, Reviewing a Manuscript. Some sessions will be jointly held with residents as that work may be shared with attendings (e.g. Educational Exhibits)
- Increase awareness of U of R career advancement programs for faculty
- Meet with incoming faculty for on-boarding
- Assistant professors networking sessions
- Pizza and Projects- biannual meeting where attendings can present ideas for education, quality, or research projects to residents/fellows, and trainees can ask questions and contact the presenter if interested in working with them on a project.
- Scholarship Day- trainees present their work in 10 minute slots at lunchtime sessions
Dr. Rubens completed her undergraduate degree at Stanford University, followed by medical school, residency and fellowship in Rochester. She has held and reviews NIH grants and been active with all major imaging societies. She is a fellow of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. Dr. Rubens is a long-time lecturer at the American Institute of Radiologic Pathology, and lectures worldwide. She has authored more than 150 peer reviewed manuscripts.
