A History of Orthopaedics
The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry 1926–2024: A Half Century as a Department 1974–2024

This brief history captures a small portion of the evolution of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Founded in 1974, the Department has constantly grown in regards its mission: education, patient care, research and community service. It has spawned graduates as departmental chairs, division chiefs, deans and a chief executive officer. Several faculty members and former residents have been members of local, national, and international orthopaedic associations as well as serving as their presidents. The Department is nationally recognized as a musculoskeletal center of excellence for quality patient care, research and resident and fellow education.
