Accommodations for Guests with Disabilities

An important consideration while planning your event is any accommodations your audience members may need. Some examples include ensuring accessible parking is available, verifying wheelchair accessible entrances are operable and unlocked, and providing sign language interpretation.

The Office of Disability Resources or an ECM event planner can assist you with any questions you may have regarding accommodations.

Please note that all publicity directed to the general public must contain the following statement:

The University of Rochester is committed to providing inclusive experiences and equal access to programs and services. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about physical access, or communication access (ASL interpreting or real-time captioning), please contact (name and contact information of the event organizer). In all situations, a good faith effort up until the time of the event will be made to provide accommodations.

Sign Language Interpreters and Captioning

Please submit all communication access requests to the Office of Disability Resources. It is best to request these services as soon as possible to ensure availability; however, every attempt will be made up until the event to meet such requests.

If you are providing a virtual component for your event (such as a Zoom meeting or webinar), captioning services can be made available. Zoom offers automatic captions, which may be sufficient for guests. In some cases, human-generated real-time captioning (known as "CART" services) may be requested. If you receive such a request, please let your ECM event planner know, as there is generally a cost associated with these services.
