Sheila Cummings, Ph.D.

Dr. Sheila Cummings completed her undergraduate training at the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in Sociology (1970) and Psychology (1973). After obtaining a teaching credential and teaching for a few years, she matriculated to the University of Kentucky where she received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1982. She completed her internship at the University of California at Los Angeles,Neuropsychiatric Institute.

Upon receiving her degree, Dr. Cummings, became Director of a Drug Treatment Facility in Lexington Kentucky where she gained expertise in the assessment and treatment of substance abuse. She has been at University Counseling Center since 1985 where she served as Associate Director, Director of Clinical Training until July, 2002 and is Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry (Psychology). Dr. Cummings changed to part-time faculty status in July 2002, opening her own private practice office, but spends one day per week at UCC teaching group seminar and providing supervision.

Dr. Cummings special interests are groups, couples and object-relations.
