Housing Contract

2025-2026 Housing Contract for Undergraduate Students (pdf)

The housing contract is a legally binding agreement for housing at the University of Rochester. Once it is submitted, you will be contractually obligated for University housing for the fall and spring semesters of the academic year subject to the conditions outlined in the contract.

The official housing contract is completed online during our annual housing lottery. It has many elements of the terms and conditions of the contract available for reference. If you still have questions after reading the contract, please contact the Office for Residential Life and Housing Services.

Students should also read the Fire and Life Safety Guidelines/Checklist.

Requesting a Room Change

The room change request form is available on StarRez, in the Undergraduate Housing Portal

Reminder for Current First-Year Students

When you entered Rochester, you signed a two year housing agreement. The College has determined that living on-campus is important to the successful development of our students. Residential Life will not release first-year students from the sophomore year of the housing requirement.

There are only two circumstances where a contract release would be considered. Contract release options are extreme financial hardship or a medical disability; supporting documentation is required. Please submit documentation directly to the respective office and not to Residential Life. If a contract release is recommended, the respective office will reach out directly to Residence Life with the decision. Residential Life will then reach out to the student.

  • To request a release for financial reasons, contact your financial aid counselor to see if you qualify.  Please note, however, that the Office of Financial Aid only approves a housing release in rare and extenuating circumstances for students receiving need-based financial aid.

  • To request a release for medical reasons, follow the instructions listed in the Office of Disability ResourcesBefore submitting a medical accommodation request, review the Medical Release Criteria sheet to understand the determining factors used by the Office of Disability Resources.
