Counselor in Residence Program

University Counseling Center (UCC), the Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Office of Residential Life have collaborated to develop the Counselor in Residence (CIR) Program. The program is designed to provide in-person mental health support during evenings and weekends when UCC is closed. The CIRs are trained and supervised by UCC licensed staff and have three main purposes:

  • Support for after-hours mental health emergencies: CIRs are available overnight and on weekends during the academic year. During their shifts they will accompany Public Safety Officers on any mental health-related calls that DPS receives. They may also provide onsite support to Residential Life and UCC on-call providers. To reach a CIR, please call DPS (585-275-3333), UCC (585-275-3113), or contact your RA.
  • Drop-In Hours Spring 2024: The CIRs hold late evening office hours in two Residence Hall offices—Hoeing 146A and Wilder 111 on weeknights. Students can drop by for help connecting with resources, learning how to help a friend, or for just for supportive conversations. Please note that the CIRs do not provide therapy.
