UCC Group Member Statements

Here is what some 2024-2025 group members said about their group experience:

  • I really enjoyed this group. I enjoyed and always looked forward to coming. I felt very welcome and accepted, and that meant a lot to me especially because I was going through a lot this semester.
  • I’m glad I joined and sad that it’s ending. Genuinely. I was skeptical in the beginning but found it helpful and definitely have things I’ll take with me.
  • I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in this group and be immersed with different cultures and backgrounds. It made me realize how the people around us can impact our lives heavily.
  • This was great exposure therapy that I felt I really needed!
  • The group was very friendly and we all had a safe space to share our experiences.
  • I love the group a lot, y’all are changing peoples’ lives.
  • I’m so grateful to have met such great people in this group. I will miss this. Thank you!
  • Loved the group.  Love the purpose. Love the facilitators. Wish we had more time.
  • This was my first time trying group therapy and it was less scary than I thought it would be. It was great. I would definitely do something like this again.
  • I felt that group was very helpful and enjoyable for me and I am glad that I decided to give it a try.
  • Phenomenal experience–I strongly advocate for the continuation of groups at UR.

Here is what some 2024-2025 group members said they found helpful about their group experience:

  • I loved the people and facilitators. We covered a lot of deep topics that I appreciated.
  • Obtaining tools to use for when I feel anxious and realizing that I am not alone in my anxiety.
  • I think it was very helpful to learn new skills for when I am feeling especially anxious or upset.
  • Finding a sense of community.
  • The thing that helped me most in group was the opportunity to share my experiences with several different people who have experienced similar things and hear their feelings/advice/stories about the experiences. I am able to do that to a certain extent with my friends, but it’s really nice to have a variety of perspectives and fresh voices. It’s also nice that everyone has decided to dedicate time specifically for this purpose, so we are all more than happy to engage in lengthy and deep conversations.
  • The activities we did really helped change my way of thinking. I really appreciated the practice and the time we took to go through everything.
  • Our conversations and exercises helped me a lot in improving my self-awareness and unconscious behavior.
  • Learning skills that help with conflict resolution and having difficult conversations with people I care about.
  • Having a variety of people to talk to gave me better perspectives.
  • Being able to express myself without judgement.
  • Seeing that a lot of my experiences were shared by others in the group.
  • Helped me get to interact with people while understanding how they are feeling about what I say.
  • Being able to immerse myself in an environment where I wasn’t alone.
  • Being able to get different POVs on issues, knowing that I am not alone with my struggles.
