Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) - Use It So You Do Not Lose It!
If you have a 2013 FSA, you have until December 31, 2013 to incur allowable expenses for reimbursement. Allowable expenses for a Health Care FSA include out-of-pocket medical and pharmacy expenses not covered by the University Health Care Plans (deductible, copays, coinsurance), and allowable dental and vision expenses. View the complete list of allowable medical expenses in the IRS Publication 502. A Limited Purpose FSA can be used to reimburse allowable vision and dental expenses until/unless the HSA deductible is met, at which point you can be reimbursed for any allowable medical expenses incurred after meeting the deductible.
Allowable expenses for reimbursement through a Dependent Care FSA must also be incurred by December 31, 2013. A Dependent Care FSA can be used for certain childcare expenses such as nursery school, daycare, etc. Additional details are available in the IRS Publication 503. Please visit the Benefits Office website to download a claims form for reimbursement through your FSA.
