New York State Sexual Harassment Prevention Training FAQs
In compliance with New York State Labor Law Section 201-G, all employees of the University are required to take Sexual Harassment training on an annual basis. In addition, the University requires employees to complete training on Title IX. These courses provide interactive scenarios and examples of harassment and discrimination, and encourage all of us to be active in ending these harmful behaviors. The University of Rochester and New York State require all employees to complete annual training on how to identify and respond to workplace sexual harassment and discrimination. We are committed to a culture of respect and this training is an important component of our efforts to ensure all members of our community feel safe, respected, included, and valued.
The Creating a Harassment-Free Workplace (2026-2027) training, in alignment with New York State requirements, has three modules, Annual Harassment Prevention Introduction (5 minutes), Sexual Harassment Prevention in New York (24 minutes), and Annual Harassment Prevention Summary (10 minutes). Please note, employees working in different states may have additional state-specific training requirements, which will be available to them through MyPath or Achieve.
The 2026 training will feature three components:
- Annual Harassment Prevention Introduction
- Sexual Harassment Prevention in New York
- Annual Harassment Prevention Summary
Please note, employees working in different states have additional state-specific training requirements which will be available to them through MyPath or Achieve.
On average, the training takes 45 minutes to complete. Please note that if you request an accommodation to complete the training in a format other than using the online module, the amount of time needed to cover the required content may vary.
This training is both critically connected to the University’s values and mission and required by New York State and the University. Failure to complete mandatory training may impact performance evaluations or result in disciplinary action.
Training must be completed upon return to work.
To ensure compliance, all employees must complete the training by October 30, 2026. Any training completed after this date, except for newly hired employees or those on extended leave, may affect performance evaluations or result in disciplinary action. Training must be completed during paid work time and prior to the deadline.

As a basic rule of thumb, if you are interacting with the University of Rochester community in any capacity other than as an independent contractor, you must still have a clear understanding of the University’s Policy Against Discrimination, Harassment, and Discriminatory Employment/Service Practices. This ensures policy compliance in offsite events and during virtual interactions such as email, texts, and virtual meetings.
If it is determined that you are not required to complete this training module for any reason, you are still required to review and understand the University of Rochester Policy Against Discrimination, Harassment, and Discriminatory Employment/Service Practices (Policy 106). Please review the policy and submit any questions to PADH@rochester.edu.
Employees who maintain a remote or hybrid schedule, may complete the training from home using MyPath or Achieve during regular work hours. Speak with your manager about scheduling the time you need to complete the training and stay aware of any possible overtime hours you may incur. For anyone in an unpaid assignment or an assignment paid through a stipend or grant, you must complete this training as part of your work agreement.
