Helping to advance your career

The UR Career Pathways program is part of the University of Rochester’s commitment to supporting staff growth and development. It helps employees build long-term careers by providing pathways for career advancement in high-demand positions.

Connect, learn, and advance

The UR Career Pathways program focuses on placing individuals in high-demand positions, and then supporting them by identifying a career pathway within the University, leading to opportunities for growth and higher earning potential.

Career navigation support connects and informs current employees about high-demand roles and fosters internal movement through UR Career Pathways.

Foundational upskilling required for career advancement is offered through on-the-job training, certifications, and educational programs at partnering colleges and training institutions.

Success coaching supports URCP participants through educational and training programs and makes direct connections to hiring managers.

The program offers eligible employees:

  • Career Navigation Services to foster exploration and progression through career pathways to high-demand positions at the University of Rochester
  • Connection to a variety of career pathways, including those requiring on-the-job training, internal certification programs, and paid tuition for academic programs
  • Tuition advancement to support upfront tuition costs, books, and fees required for high-demand roles, regardless of current position

  • Academic Advising and Success Coaching to support you through your selected pathway, and connect you to hiring managers
  • Paid release time to focus on career development, including job shadowing opportunities and study time during academic programs
  • Job search support, including résumé and interview preparation, recruitment events, and direct connection to hiring managers in departments across the University

Enhanced tuition benefit

UR Career Pathways supports eligible employees with upfront tuition costs if required as a qualification for a designated high-demand position. When a position requires an academic degree or other formal education, the University supports associated tuition fees with direct payments to the educational institution—even when the desired position is not related to the employee’s current job.

The focus of the UR Career Pathways program is on helping current employees begin a new career pathway in a high-demand position. Individuals who have already been accepted into an academic degree program are not eligible to participate.

Individuals represented by collective bargaining agreements receive benefits in accordance with those agreements.
