We have all come together in meaningful and supportive ways during extremely challenging times over the last year. We are proud of and inspired by the examples we have seen across the institution of our community bringing to life the University’s vision and values. As COVID-19 guidelines ease and vaccination rates increase, we will again change the way that we are working and must not lose sight of our commitment to fostering a culture of respect.
In pursuit of our Meliora values and in compliance with state and federal law, the University of Rochester requires all employees to complete an annual training on how to identify and react to workplace harassment and discrimination. The training this year focuses on sexual harassment and misconduct, and it is an important component of our efforts to address the damaging effects of discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, military status, source of income or disability.
This year’s training, “Culture of Respect: Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Discrimination”, will be added to MyPath on July 12 and must be completed by September 30. The course is a refresher of last year’s training and applies directly to the various work environments found across our institution. Due to the feedback we received last year, we have shortened this year’s course, which should only take approximately 30 minutes to complete. For the first time, it will be offered in nine languages, as well as closed captioning and will be accessible for screen readers. Last year’s longer, more foundational training is still available in MyPath and will continue to be completed by new hires to the University.
Beyond the training, it is important that each of us take this opportunity to evaluate our own behaviors. This is an opportunity to not only engage with the content, but to spend some time thinking how you can contribute to making the University of Rochester ever better. By working together, we can ensure safe, enjoyable and equitable workplaces for everyone.
For more information and frequently asked questions about the training as well as additional opportunities for online and in-person training, visit the Office of Equity and Inclusion online.
We recognize that content on harassment and discrimination may be sensitive for some faculty and staff. If you have any questions or concerns about this training or need a special accommodation, please submit them via the feedback form on the Diversity website.
