Paid Family Leave (PFL) lets eligible New York State employees take paid time off for qualifying reasons, including:

An employee is responsible for notifying the University that they intend to apply for PFL benefits. For any type of foreseeable PFL, an employee must provide at least 30 days’ notice. Otherwise, the employee must give notice as soon as possible.
For an up-to-date account of the employee’s average weekly wages, the employee must first enter their ‘actual days worked’ on the PFL page in myURHR Workday (Main Menu > Self Service > Paid Family Leave > Average Weekly Wages) if it differs from the information currently provided on the ‘current data’ table. No written forms are required by Leave Administration or Hartford to open a PFL claim.
University of Rochester employees looking to open a PFL claim must call Hartford, our PFL insurance carrier, at (866) 548-3101. Hartford will then explain the process and provide an acknowledgment letter, along with any applicable certification forms.

Use of Accrued Time
Effective December 15, 2024, in myURHR UKG employees leave for Short-term Disability (STD), Workers Compensation (WC), or Paid Family Leave (PFL) per New York State requirements will need to request in writing to use any accrued time to supplement their leave where full pay is not offered.
Additionally, a new automated accruals payments process will determine the order in which accruals for time will be paid.
