Short-Term Disability

Short-Term Disability (STD) pays all or part of a basic salary for an eligible individual who is absent from work due to illness or disability that is not related to the job, and which prevents the individual from performing University duties.

Short-Term Disability benefits begin with the eighth consecutive day of a sick absence.

How to apply for Short-Term Disability

For a sick/disability absence involving more than seven calendar days, employees must call Hartford, our STD insurance carrier, at (866) 548-3101. Hartford will provide employees with any paperwork required and confirm the next steps. Employees must also keep their supervisor advised of their anticipated return to work date.

Report a return from Short-Term Disability

The department reporting a return to work for one of their employees/members of your department will need to complete this online form.

 

Changes to Leave Plan Designation Terminology

The University’s leave and disability plans have historically been linked to an employee’s pay grade. To align with our new job structure launched on January 31, 2024, the University’s paid leave policies have been updated with new terminology used to designate leave plans. The plans remain the same and there is no impact to staff.
