4 steps to resolution

Step 1: Informal resolution

  • The staff member and manager review the MyPath training, Understanding the University of Rochester’s Job Structure, and any relevant job profiles in the Job Catalog to ensure a strong understanding of how jobs are organized within the job structure
  • The staff member and manager discuss the staff member’s placement. The staff member and/or manager may engage the HRBP where appropriate. If additional review is needed, the matter is escalated to the designee for review

Step 2: Department review

  • The designee evaluates the situation and engages other leaders and/or the HR Business Partner as appropriate
  • If the Department Review determines the staff member may not be placed correctly, the matter advances to Compensation for review

Step 3: Compensation review

  • A Compensation team member not involved in the job’s placement reviews the appeal
  • If Compensation and the designee believe further review is warranted, the matter goes to the Job Profile Appeals Committee for review

Step 4: Job Profile Appeals Committee review

  • The Appeals Committee is comprised of a number of leaders including designees/managers, and compensation team members. Each appeal will be reviewed by a sub-set of the Appeals Committee who are familiar with the type of work and have an understanding of the organization beyond the department that submitted the appeal. After receiving the Appeals Committee recommendation, HR Leadership will communicate the final decision to the designee.
