Employment User's Guide

References

  • Reference Checking is the final opportunity to obtain important information about your applicantÂ’s past performance. A minimum of two professional references should be sought (personal references are not as reliable). Contact with former supervisors is preferred as he/she will be able to offer the most direct assessment of the applicant's skills and abilities. Standard information should be gathered about dates of employment, title, attendance, overall performance and reason for leaving in addition to information about what skills make this person qualified for your position.
  • If you are having difficulty reaching a particular person listed as a reference inform your candidate as they may be able to offer a different contact or help in connecting you to the contact provided.
  • Reference information is considered confidential and need not be shared with the applicant. For further assistance contact your HR Liaison or HR Field Office Representative .
