What is the Eat Well Live Well Challenge?

The Eat Well Live Well Challenge is a friendly 8-week competition among teams of employees.  It is for all University employees who are ready to get more active and want to eat healthier.  Teams will compete for a prize(s) to be awarded at the end of the challenge.

Participants will track their steps including a conversion of time or activity into steps.  Healthy eating is encouraged by challenging participants to increase the number of fruits and vegetables consumed to the recommended 5 each day.

For more information about the Eat Well Live Well program including tips on how to increase your physical activity and healthy eating habits, visit the website at www.eatwelllivewell.org.

What do you have to do?

Team Captains will need to recruit people for their team, and then challenge, support and encourage your team members.  You need access to a computer to sign up your team members prior to the start of the Challenge.  For your team members who do not have computer access, you will need to spend a small amount of time each week recording their number of steps taken and cups of fruits/veggies eaten on the Eat Well Live Well web page.

Participants will need to wear a pedometer (free with registration), record daily steps taken (or convert time or activity into steps), record daily fruit and vegetable consumption, and record the numbers weekly online or to your team leader if you do not have computer access.  You should challenge yourself and your teammates to increase physical activity and consumption of fruits and vegetables.

How do you get started?

Once you have a team formed of employees from your division (as few as 2 employees can form a team), the team leader needs to email well-u-info@rochester.edu or call 273-5240 with their name, division, email address and team name by Friday, April 11th.  The team leader will then receive an email from info@eatwelllivewell.org by Monday, April 14th inviting them to join the challenge and input their team members.  The team leaders are asked to input all team members onto the Eat Well Live Well website by Wednesday, April 16th.  The team leader will receive a packet of information and pedometers for their team members.

An employee can be a team leader for more than one team.  However, the team leader and all team members must be employees of the same division.
