Small Steps Make a Big Difference

In conjunction with our America On the MoveStep up to a healthier lifestyle program, Well-U is leading a communications campaign designed to promote physical activity -- specifically encouraging use of stairs rather than the elevator, when possible.

The communications campaign relies on light-hearted messages that have been developed and tested by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In recent years, numerous published studies have demonstrated that such campaigns are effective, especially in the context of a broader program.

The messages:

  1. Take a family walk after dinner
  2. Use spices instead of salt
  3. Ask a friend to exercise with you
  4. Go lean with protein!
  5. Choose an activity that fits into your daily life
  6. Make it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body
  7. Choose activities you enjoy, and you’ll be more likely to stick with them
  8. When you need to talk to a co-worker, walk over there and chat face to face-those extra steps add up
  9. Replace a Sunday drive with a Sunday walk
